Volvo Cars Setting the New Slovakia EVs Manufacturing Hub
Volvo Cars reveals their mission to establish new manufacturing hub in Konice, Slovakia that will be using climate neutral energy and to produce electric vehicles (EVs) series only.
Construction of the new facility is planned to start in 2023 as equipment and production lines will be installed during 2024 and series production of next-generation, pure electric Volvo cars is scheduled to start in 2026.

As the plan is to support its ambition to become fully electric by 2030 and climate neutral by 2040, Volvo Cars claims that the facility is designed to produce up to 250,000 cars per year.
An investment of around RM5.3 billion (EUR 1.2 billion) contributed to the new project which covers its largest sales region after having Ghent plant (Belgium) in western Europe and the Torslanda plant (Sweden) in northern Europe area.

Volvo Cars is targeting to move towards annual sales of 1.2 million cars by mid-decade to meet with a global manufacturing footprint covering Europe, the US and Asia.
The establishment of the Kosice, Slovakia plant represents the first new European manufacturing site for Volvo Cars for almost 60 years. The Torslanda plant was opened in 1964, while the Ghent factory followed a year later. Together, these facilities can produce 600,000 cars per year.
“We look forward to welcoming new members to the Volvo Cars Kosice team and the global Volvo Cars family, as well as establishing new collaborations and partnerships in the region,” said chief operating officer at Volvo Cars, Javier Varela.
