Paul Walker’s 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 is heading to auction

The late Paul Walker, famous for his role as ‘Brian’ in the ‘Fast And The Furious’ movie franchise, was a bona fide car nut. His private collection speaks for itself. In the years following his tragic death, a number of cars from said collection have been auctioned, and the latest of which is this: a rare classic Porsche 911.

Renowned as an avid Porsche fan, this particular Porsche that Walker owned wasn’t a regular, run-of-the-mill 1970s 911 either. In fact, what you see here is a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 homologation special. It’s one of only 1,590 reportedly produced by the famed Stuttgart-based sportscar maker between 1973 and 1974.

The ‘RS’ in its name stands for ‘Rennsport’, which is the German word for motorsports, and that’s exactly what this 911 was built for – racing. It came equipped with a race-derived naturally-aspirated 2.7-litre flat-six heart mounted at the rear delivering 210 HP, as well as a 5-speed manual transmission. It also weighed significantly less than a regular 911 of the same period, and features a number of race-derived bits on board too.
Today, only a fraction of these race specials exist, with only a handful of which being in such pristine condition as this Light Yellow-hued one that Walker owned, which has only clocked 93,774 KM. Said rarity has indeed fuelled the Carrera RS 2.7’s collectability and subsequently its price at auction.

However, with the provenance of Walker’s ownership, this particular unit is expected to fetch a much higher price. Auction house Mecum has listed Walker’s 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 with an estimated price range of US$1 million to US$1.25 million – approx. RM4.45 million to RM5.57 million.
The car is expected to meet – and perhaps exceed – said price expectations as it goes under the hammer later this month with Mecum’s upcoming auction in Monterrey, California.
