Singer reimagines the Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet

What you see here is the very latest from Singer Vehicle Design – world-famous purveyors of restomod classic Porsche 911s. Based off the 930 911 Turbo-based Singer Turbo Study the firm released earlier this year, this concept marks the firm’s first ever open-top creation.

“The first Porsche, the Sport 356/1 known as ‘Number 1’, was a cabriolet, and high-performance, open-roof glamour has been part of the story ever since,” said Rob Dickinson, founder and executive chairman of Singer Vehicle Design.

Dickinson further added that he’s “long wanted to celebrate that part of Porsche heritage at Singer and doing so as part of our recently announced Turbo Study seems a perfect place to start.”

Like the Turbo Study, Singer has envisioned this open-top version to harness the rebuilt and uprated Mezger air-cooled flat-six turbo mill lifted from the 930 Turbo. Stroked and enlarged to a 3.8-litre capacity, it can output anywhere between 444 hp and 510 hp, depending on which state of tune a customer wishes to have it in. There is also the choice between rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive layouts to pair with said mill and its 6-speed manual transmission.

As for the chassis, Singer will brim this open-top iteration of its Turbo Study with softer, “touring-focused” suspension at each corner, a set of wide Fuchs alloy wheels, as well as both ABS (anti-lock brakes) and TCS (traction control) systems to help to maintain stability in challenging conditions.

Of course, customers preferring a sportier experience will be able to opt for a freer flowing and more raucous exhaust system, followed by a stiffer, lower suspension setup, as well as carbon-ceramic anchors too.

Based on a 964-generation 911 Cabriolet, the exterior has been given the typical Singer treatment. Highlights include custom carbon fibre body panels with significantly widened front and rear wheel arches, a large ‘whale tail’ rear spoiler, as well as the tasty shade of Cadiz Red paint.

On board, the cabin layout is reminiscent of the 930-generation 911, albeit updated with a phone slot that features an inductive charging pad. In typical Singer fashion, there’s also bespoke bucket seats present primed with electronic adjustment and heating to maximise comfort on longer drives, some wood trims, as well as the befittingly retro red plaid upholstery.

Presently, Singer has yet to confirm just how many units of this open top version of its Turbo Study it plans to build. As of June, the firm has already received 70 orders for said hard top version.

However, even if you have the means to meet the six (or seven) figure price tag this reimagined retro 911 will command, it’ll be sometime before you can actually order one. That’s because Singer had recently stated that it will not be accepting new orders presently, citing that its order books are full for the next several years.
