Final Ferrari Purosangue teaser confirms its V12 heart
(Screengrab of Ferrari's official teaser)
Whether you like it or not, crossover and SUVs have been the ‘in’ thing for a while now, but it took famed Italian sportscar marque Ferrari this long to finally give in. The brand’s all-new SUV offering, dubbed the Ferrari Purosangue, is set to debut later today, and its final teaser confirms that it will pack a V12 heart.
Ferrari have been teasing the Purosangue, which is the Italian word for ‘Thoroughbred’, for a while now, but it hasn’t released any key details thus far. Apart from getting one of Maranello’s famed V12 engines, credible sources report that the mill will be paired with a DCT box and al-wheel-drive at least.
Power and performance figures remain uncertain for now, but the V12 mill the Purosangue harnesses is capable of at least 830 hp in the 812 Competitzione. In other words, we can likely expect at least the same figure, or perhaps more as this mill is reportedly capable of generating even higher outputs.
Though the V12 will be the highlight, sources also report it won’t be the only powertrain offered for the Purosangue. A hybrid petrol-electric package has been rumoured, and it’s fuelled by Ferrari’s reported plans of having up to 60% of its line up to have either a hybrid or all-electric powertrain setup by 2026. The Purosangue could play a pivotal role towards this planned electrification by Ferrari.
Despite this, Ferrari will reportedly restrict the Purosangue sales to a rate below 20% of its annual deliveries, or about one in every five cars it delivers. It still wants its supercars to continue making up for most of its total annual sales.
Regardless, a paradigm shift is about to happen when the famed Maranello-based institution finally unveils its first ever SUV offering. Stay tuned as we’ll bring you our post-launch report of the new Ferrari Purosangue SUV soon.
