PDRM Getting Tough On "Zig-Zag" Driving With RM15K Fine And Jail Time
The next time you are out on the road and decide to tap into your inner speed demon, do remember that it could get you into a lot of trouble. In a statement issued via Facebook, the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) considers this act of “zig-zag” overtaking for the fun of it as dangerous and reckless act that puts both oneself, and other motorists, in danger.
This is a clear violation of Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and offenders charged could face imprisonment for up to five years, plus a fine betwen RM5,000 and RM15,000. Additionally, offenders still holding a probationary driving licence (P) caught in this act could also see their licences revoked entirely.
These speed demons are mostly in it for the thrill and adrenaline rush. Adding to this, they are well aware of the dangers involved too. Most of them even take pride in their “skills” with ample recordings uploaded to YouTube and Facebook. However, these very recordings might be just what PDRM needs to apprehend and convict these so-called “racers”.
When going through the PDRM’s Facebook post, most netizens have applauded this move, but some have gone on to add that PDRM should equally go after other offenders such as right-lane hoggers who tend to leave many other motorists feeling frustrated.
Netizen's clearly wants some sort of law put in place for right-lane hoggers too.
If you have the need for speed, do sign-up for one of the many available trackdays organised at the Sepang International Circuit, or just head down to your local go-kart track for a much cheaper fix.
