PLUS Expects 1.6 Million Road Users, Plan Your Chinese New Year Trips Accordingly
The 2022 Chinese New Year Celebration is just around the corner, and many have probably made plans to return to their hometowns or go on holidays by this weekend.
Therefore, we at CariCarz advise all drivers to plan your trip accordingly before being ‘tortured’ on the road for hours due to bad traffic.
This follows Plus expecting that 1.6 million vehicles will be using the North-South Expressway (PLUS) ahead of the holidays.
Notably, said situation is expected as it is approaching the weekend and public holidays in conjunction with Chinese New Year.
PLUS Malaysia Berhad’s chairman, Datuk Mohamad Nasir Ab. Latif, commented, "It is expected that 1.6 million vehicles will use Plus during these peak days. The number of vehicles on the highway will start to increase on January 28 and 29. The increase is also expected to take place on February 2 and 5 next.”
Commenting further on the matter, he also revealed that the number would increase by 17.4 percent compared to 1.4 million vehicles on a normal day.
As such, based on a study conducted on the travel trends of customers during the holiday seasons, it found that the traffic flow will start to be congested this Friday.
Nonetheless, amidst all the holiday excitement, be careful when driving because the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) will conduct Ops Selamat 17 PDRM.
Chances are, road users won’t see glimpses of these policemen under the flyover as they are equipped with an ‘In-Car Radar’ system in the vehicle to look for drivers breaking the speed limit.
Apart from that system, PDRM is also equipped with the 'Intelligent Compound Online Payment System' (iCOPS) to identify traffic offenders with outstanding summonses and traffic arrest warrants.
For instance, the system is said to be able to identify vehicles involved in criminal cases such as stolen or cloned vehicles.
Regardless, make sure you are free of crime and have a clean summon record before embarking on your journey.
