83,855 Singaporean Traffic Offenders Have Yet To Settle Their Summons, Last Day Today For 50% Discount

Johor Police Chief, Kamarul Zaman Mamat told Malay Mail that there are about 2.3 million traffic summons that has been issued since 2014 which are still unpaid. Of that number, 109,758 traffic summonses were to Singaporean vehicle owners.

Based on PDRM’s record only 23.5% Singaporeans had made settlement of their summons while 76.4% have yet to make any form of settlement. Kamarul Zaman, further adds that PDRM is encouraging Singaporeans with outstanding summons to make the necessary settlement soon in view of the soon to be implemented Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) system which could potentially deny their entry into Malaysia.

As of now, under the current legal framework, any offenders with outstanding summons are at the risk of being denied exit out of Malaysia as long as the summonses are not settled.

Meanwhile, in view of this the Johor Police is having a summons reduction drive which started on 30th September and ends today 2nd October where 50% discount is given for selected offences. The general public can walk-in to any of the 13 Johor Police district headquarters from 8.30am to 5pm for summon settlements.

However, we do wonder why drives such as this are not made for online summon settlements. Aren't we as a nation moving towards being digitally savvy? Well even PDRM is disseminating its releases and statements through social media, hence why can’t discounted online payments be made possible. Maybe soon hopefully.
