Toyota plans to invest more than 730 billion yen in automotive batteries for battery electric vehicles (BEVs)

Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) announces its plan to invest more than RM 25.24 billion (730 billion yen) in automotive batteries for battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
The Japanese automaker shares a goal to start producing batteries between 2024 and 2026 by offering multiple powertrains and as many options as possible.
Upon its mission, a total of approximately RM 12.65 billion (400 billion yen) will be newly invested in the Himeji Plant of Prime Planet Energy & Solutions Co., Ltd. (PPES) and in Toyota plants and property centres.
Meanwhile for the US branch, around RM 11.3 billion (325 billion yen) will be newly invested in Toyota Battery Manufacturing, North Carolina toward increasing automotive battery production.

Toyota intends to increase its combined battery production capacity in Japan and the United States by up to 40 GWh by utilizing the Toyota Production System.

On top of building a more efficient production line as well as investing in the training of personnel involved in battery production and monozukuri manufacturing skills, it could meet the demands of various customers from diverse regions.
What is monozukuri?
Monozukuri (monotsukuri) simply means production commonly used by Japanese manufacturing companies and here we have Toyota that seeks to contribute to society through the monozukuri philosophy — an all-encompassing approach to manufacturing.

‘’In its application of monozukuri to the production of automobiles, Toyota has pursued a sustainable method of making its cars ever more safe, environmentally friendly, reliable and comfortable”.
