Porsche 911 GT3 RS, The Nürburgring Dominated In 6:49.328 Minutes

Built for absolute performance, the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS has completed the 20.8 Km Nordschleife of the Nürburgring in 6:49.328 minutes.

Taming the 911 series’ new flagship was Porsche brand ambassador Jörg Bergmeister, and the lap time set was 10.6 seconds faster than the current 911 GT3.

Porsche’s director of GT cars, Andreas Preuninger, remarked, “The 911 GT3 RS delivered what it had already promised at first glance, absolute excellence on the racetrack. Considering the far from ideal conditions, with a strong headwind on the long straight of the Döttinger Höhe and cool asphalt temperatures, we are satisfied with this time. The 911 GT3 RS is setting new standards for aerodynamics and the chassis. Never before has a road car embodied so much motorsport.”

The 911 GT3 RS is a road-legal high-performance sports car that takes full advantage of technology and concepts from motorsport.

It underpins a high-revving naturally aspirated engine with racing DNA and intelligent lightweight construction.

In particular, it is the cooling and aerodynamic concept of its build that proves its direct kinship with its motorsport brethren.

Outstandingly, it generates an output of 386-kW (518 Hp), and can achieve a total downforce of 860 Kg at 285 Km/h, three times faster than the 911 GT3.

This particular 911 GT3 RS was decked out with the Weissach package that had the optionally available Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, sized 275/35 R 20 (front) and 335/30 R21 (rear).

Porsche’s vice president for model lines 911 and 718, Frank Moser, concluded, “I’m incredibly proud of what the whole team has achieved during the development and testing of the new 911 GT3 RS. Jörg Bergmeister brought everything together and unleashed the car’s full potential. The 911 can still surprise us and proves that the rear engine concept is still supremely suitable for high-performance sports cars.”
