Nissan no longer taking orders for Sakura EV, X-Trail in Japan

More precisely, the Japanese carmaker will stop collecting orders for the Sakura, a fully electric mini "kei" vehicle starting at the end of November this year.
The Japanese carmaker introduced the Sakura, its first light EV jointly developed with alliance partner Mitsubishi Motors Corp somewhere in May.
By July, it had received orders for 23, 000 units, surpassing the total number of batteries driven EVs sold by all firms in Japan back in 2017.
More than that, the company would no longer accept orders for the Leaf EV, which is currently available on the domestic market starting at the end of September.
Nissan's home market is still far more favoured by gasoline-electric hybrid models than by electric vehicles, but the carmaker intends to convert more Japanese motorists to battery-powered vehicles by providing inexpensive mini models like the Sakura.
For the same reason, Nissan has stopped taking new orders for the X-Trail crossover sports utility vehicle. The suspension is for the domestic market. However, Nissan spokesperson could not provide customers with a delivery date response.
Due to strong orders and global semiconductors chip shortage, it had cast uncertainty over the production plan for the next fiscal year which led to a prolonged delivery period of a year or more.
