Tesla Model 3 Reportedly Set For Major Revisions – Will it get the ‘yoke’?

According to a report by newswire Reuters, American startup electric cars brand Tesla is set to develop and introduce a heavily revised iteration of its Model 3 soon. Reportedly carrying the codename of ‘Highland’ internally, this supposed new and revamped Model 3 compact sedan will feature lots of changes inside and out.

Having been on sale for about five years now, reckon a refresh or ‘face-lift’, is somewhat due. The focus of the changes are aimed squarely towards reducing the complexity of the Model 3’s interior and, ultimately, reduce overall production costs per unit too.

Citing ‘four people with knowledge’, Reuters’ also reports that one key change on board will be the switch for an aviation-inspired ‘yoke’ steering instead of a traditional steering wheel – similar as how the bigger and pricier Model S did, though there are no indications or signs from Tesla to confirm this.

Like the refreshed Model S, the revisions expected of this revised Model 3 includes a slight exterior design for a sleeker look, improved on board comfort features, both heating and ventilation functions for the front seats, medical-grade HEPA air filter, and perhaps new additional wood trim options.

The report continued by saying that this ‘face-lifted’ Tesla Model 3 will enter production at the brand’s overseas factory in Shanghai, China, starting from the third quarter of the year. Tesla’s American-based production hub in Fremont, California, which already produces the revamped Model S, should also see no trouble at including the Model 3 production, though when this will start remains unclear still.

Should the Model 3 get the ‘yoke’ as the Model S? What other changes should Tesla actually consider for the Model 3 too? Hit the comments below with your thoughts…
