2024 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R Race Car Debuts Ahead of Daytona 24
Chevrolet has officially unveiled the all-new 2024 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R Race Car. The marque’s first-ever FIA-compliant GT3 racecar made its debut just in time for 2024 Rolex at 24 Daytona, though it won’t be ready to partake in the race, not until next year.
This GT3-spec Corvette will be replacing the ongoing Corvette C8.R GTD as the marque’s new contender in next year’s edition of the IMSA SportsCar Championship – one of the biggest racing series in North America.
Built based on the road-legal Z06, the GT3.R still harnesses some of the Vette’s standard parts, which includes its aluminium chassis, as well as the double wishbone suspension design. Thanks to a full racecar conversion done by folks at Pratt Miller Engineering in Michigan, the Z06 GT3.R is primed with racecar parts like a roll cage, racing dampers and springs, as well as high-performance brakes.
The racecar conversion continues on the exterior, as the GT3.R boasts an aggressive racing bodykit with a plethora of aerodynamic parts, mostly made of carbon fibre. Said aero parts include its front splitter, air ducts, rear diffuser, as well as a massive rear wing with swan neck style. The GT3.R racecar rides on a set of 18-inch centre-locked wheels derived from yet another Chevy’s racecar, the Corvette C8.R.
Powering this GT3-spec Corvette is a racing version of the marque’s high-revving 5.5-litre DOHC V8 mill that shares about 70% of its components from the standard 5.5-litre engine primed on road-legal Vettes. Unfortunately, IMSA regulations limit its maximum power to only 600 HP, which is a tad bit less than the production-spec Z06’s power output of 668 HP.
Already made its debut right before the 2024 Rolex at 24 Daytona, the Corvette Z06 GT3.R is poised to make its actual racing debut in the next year's edition, where it will partake under the GT Daytona (GTD) PRO category. Aside from Chevrolet’s factory team, private racing teams will also be able to purchase and race the Z06 GT3.R, though its exact price is yet to be disclosed. Every purchase of the Z06 GT3.R racecar will be included with on-track support from Corvette Racing in the form of parts and engineering expertise.
