General Motors Wants To Bring Back Plug-in Hybrids

In order to concentrate on producing all-electric cars, General Motors stopped producing the Chevrolet Volt nearly five years ago. The automaker has opted to reevaluate plug-in hybrids due to the EV segment's lower-than-anticipated demand, particularly in the US.
Surprisingly, CEO Mary Barra revealed during a Tuesday fourth-quarter earnings call that GM will resume offering PHEVs in its North American lineup in the coming years.

She did not specify which cars will be adapted to PHEVs or when they will happen. She did, however, point out that other markets have already begun using the technology, guaranteeing a low-cost and low-capital method of marketing these cars.
The CEO also emphasized that GM's January 2021 announcement that it will remove tailpipe emissions from its light-duty lineup by 2035 will remain unaffected by the PHEV rollout. By 2030, Cadillac and Buick, two of the carmaker's four brands, are expected to be there.

“But in the interim, deploying plug-in technology in strategic segments will deliver some of the environmental benefits of EVs as the nation continues to build its charging infrastructure," Barra said.
