F1-inspired Mercedes-AMG SL63 Motorsport Collectors Edition Debuts

Mercedes-AMG have announced the availability of a special, limited-run “Motorsport Collectors Edtion” variant of the SL63 roadster. This special sports a number of unique visual enhancements that’s reportedly inspired by the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 Team.

Like the team’s 2021 racing livery, this special edition sees the SL63 dressed in a metallic paint with a gradual shift from silver to obsidian black. This is combined with the rather familiar Petronas green for a contrasting effect. The rear half also sports numerous three-pointed stars to mirror the 2021 W13 racecar.

This special comes standard-equipped with the AMG Aerodynamics Package featuring larger flics at both the front and rear aprons. There’s also a beefier diffuser and changes to the underbody for improved airflow.

Apart from that, the exterior also features various black accents courtesy of the AMG Night Package and AMG Night Package II, the latter adding a black chrome grille, dark brake calipers, and black badging. Capping the exterior off are a set of 21-inch AMG 10 twin-spoke alloy wheels plus a black fabric soft-top cover.

On board, the cabin gets AMG Performance seats upholstered black Nappa leather with either red or yellow stitching, with both featuring the AMG emblem embossed in the headrests too. There’s also carbon fibre trims, a Burmester sound system, a head-up display, and the AMG Track Pace telemetry system primed on board.

Aptly, all these Formula 1-inspired aesthetics bode well with the base SL63 AMG’s peppy powertrain. The package consists of a signature hand-buit AMG 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo mill delivering 585 HP and 800 NM, thus allowing for 0-100 KM/H sprints in just 3.6 seconds plus a claimed V-max of 315 KM/H.

According to Mercedes-AMG, just 100 units of the SL63 Motorsport Collectors Edition will be made, though no specific price figure was mentioned. Each purchase is bundled with an indoor car cover made from a synthetic fabric that won’t tear plus an anti-static lining of woven flannel on the inside to better protect the vehicle from scratches and dust.
