LOKE : FREE Train Ride For The Disable And Students On KTMB From 15 Feb 2023
Just days after the call for free transportation for the person with disability (PwD) group by Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri which was concurred by the Minister of Transport, YB Anthony Loke, it is announced that that beginning 15 Feb students wearing school uniform up to 12 years old and PwD will be entitled to free rides on Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) trains.
Loke who made this announcement added that this free service to the selected group was possible based on the savings of RM15 million a year after the suspension of KTM commuter services that used to run from Subang Skypark to KL Sentral due to low demand. This service suspension will take effect also on 15 Feb.
He also added that the free train service would be for only the commuter train services on the northern sector and Klang Valley as well as inter-city services for the Gemas-Tumpat route. This free train service would benefit about 150 students who are currently using the train service to commute between Dabong and Kuala Geris in Kelantan every day. They now pay a flat rate of RM1 each way.
Loke also said, "Further discussions will be held to extend the free train service to secondary school students from now on depending on financial ability."
Next as per Loke’s promise a discussion with Prasarana would be next as the trains and buses under this concession holder is the major network of public transport that connects the entire Klang Valley.
