Cops Nab DASH Highway Street Racers, Some Still At Large
It seems the Prolintas-operated Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Highway (DASH Highway) is starting to become a hotbed of illegal activities involving car enthusiasts.
Local daily Kosmo! reported earlier today that Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) have nabbed two suspects who were believed to be participants in an illegal street racing act that was caught on CCTV along said highway.
This latest incident follows up from another that occurred in the same vicinity prior – that one saw a group of motorists brazenly performing donuts and drifts. Similarly, this latest incident instead saw a group of six cars using the DASH Highway toll plaza as an impromptu starting line for their illegal drag race.
The Shah Alam district traffic investigation and enforcement department (BSPTD) issued a statement saying that a number of the drivers seen involved in the incident have been detained. The effort also saw police impounding what appears to be two modified Proton Satria hatchbacks believed to be the same as caught on video.
According to Shah Alam district police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Bin Ibrahim, police received a complaint on Feb 27, 11:35PM regarding a video of six vehicles racing on the DASH highway that had gone viral on social circles.
“Initial investigations found that the incident occurred on Feb 27, from around 12:30AM to 1:30AM, involving [Proton Satria] vehicles racing from the Denai Alam toll plaza towards KM0 (exit to Pulau Angsa) on the DASH highway, then returning against the flow of traffic towards the Denai Alam toll plaza,” said the Shah Alam district police chief in a statement.
Amongst those reportedly detained are a 20 and 29 year-year-old mechanics were believed to be involved in this illegal racing. Police adds that four other individuals remain at large. Police are investigating this case under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving in a manner that is dangerous to the public.
Additionally, the Shah Alam district police are requesting witnesses or members of the public with information to come forward and assist in their investigation. This can be done by contacting the Shah Alam district police headquarters investigating officer, inspector Mohd Zulkifli Bin Razak at 019-4475767.
We at CariCarz.com feel it’s best to remind all that the street is no place for racing. If you feel the need for speed, there are plenty of avenues to sate it such as private trackdays and go-karting.
