Police Record 41% Increase In Accidents During This Year's Ops Selamat

According to Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, the number of accidents during this year's Ops Selamat, which coincided with Chinese New Year, increased by 41% compared to 2022.
The Deputy Inspector-General of Police stated that 15,999 cases were recorded this year, compared to 11,325 in 2022.

"It represents a 41% increase in cases. 121 fatal accidents were also reported during the same time period, compared to 108 the previous year. It is a 12% increase of 13 cases "On Tuesday, he spoke at the Police College's closing ceremony for Ops Selamat (Jan 31).
According to Razarudin, 134 deaths were recorded this year, up from 119 the previous year.

"This represents a 13% increase, or 15 cases. Motorcycle riders and pillion riders had the highest number of fatalities among road users, accounting for 81 deaths "He stated. According to Razarudin, a total of 160,375 traffic summonses were issued during the Ops Selamat period, compared to 308,726 summonses last year. "It shows a drastic reduction as we believe most road users adhere to traffic laws and regulations.

"We also did not conduct any road blocks during Operas Selamat because we did not want to disrupt road users' journeys," he added.
According to Razarudin, no fatal accidents occurred at 30 hot spots (for traffic congestion) identified along the North-South Expressway, as well as 234 black spots (accident-prone areas) nationwide.

"We will work to identify new black spots throughout the country," he said. According to him, the number of house break-ins has decreased by 9.6% compared to last year. "A total of 296 break-in cases were recorded this year compared to 326 cases last year.

"A total of 68,519 patrols were conducted on houses and premises during the Chinese New Year period. "High awareness among members of society on the importance of safeguarding homes and belongings is one of the factors that contributed to the reduction in cases.

"We will continue to engage the public in raising crime prevention awareness," Razarudin said.
