Lamborghini Reveals New Details of the LB744 – Set to Debut on Mar 29
Following the unveiling of the new V12 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, Lamborghini has once again unveiled new spec details on its next-gen V12 flagship model, set to replace the Aventador that has recently ceased its production.
This revelation saw the Italian marque showcasing the carbon fibre monocoque chassis that this new model – codenamed LB744 – will be based on, as well as several tech features and driving modes available.

Starting off with the chassis, the LB744 will underpin a wholly carbon fibre chassis monocoque a la Formula One (F1) car – making it the first-ever ‘super sports car’ to have its front structure made entirely from carbon fibre. The usage of carbon fibre not only grants the new model with a lighter body weight, but also a much stronger and safer structure for the vehicle, capable of absorbing twice the amount of energy compared to the metal structure used in the model it replaces.

Aside from carbon fibre, the LB744 will also don some high-strength aluminium alloys on the rear half of the car, specifically at the engine bay part. Two hollow castings for the shock bars and powertrain suspensions are all integrated into a single component to reduce weight, welding points, as well as boosting the rigidity.

This stringent diet put on by Lamborghini engineers is essential to off-set the heavy hybrid electrical components such as the triple electric motors and battery pack. For the record, the LB744 will employ a 6.5-litre nat-asp V12 mill that is newly developed to weigh about 17 KG less than the previous version.
This V12 mill will work in-tandem with said triple hybrid motor setup to deliver up to 1,000 HP – making the LB744 the first-ever Raging Bull flagship model to break the 1,000 HP mark.

Aside from the new underbone, Lamborghini has also unveiled several drive configurations and tech the LB744 will be primed with. For instance, this PHEV supercar comes with at least seven driving modes, including Strada, Sport, Corsa, Performance, Hybrid, Recharge, and City.

The special ‘City’ driving mode drives the car in all-electric mode, limiting the LB744’s power to only 180 HP, with all the traction control, damper system and the dual-clutch 8-speed gearbox being calibrated to provide maximum comfort and efficiency. Uniquely, there’s also the Recharge mode, which fires up the massive V12 mill to recharge the small 3.7-kWh battery pack in just six minutes.
Aside from this, users can also charge up the teeny tiny battery pack via regenerative braking, as well as the conventional plug-in charging.

Should you be brave enough to unleash all thousand horses this supercar poses, try putting it in the Corsa (track) mode. Not only that, drivers can also disengage the electronic stability control (ESC) system to wag this Raging Bull’s tail more aggressively. On top of that, there’s an additional 13 selectable settings for the drivers to fiddle with, including the ‘Corsa Recharge’ setup that prioritises the lithium-ion battery by maximising recharge.

The next-gen Lamborghini V12 model is set to make its global debut in Mar 29 this year, continuing the decades of legacy which started by the legendary Miura – the marque’s original flagship V12 model, which also happened to be the world’s first supercar.

This global debut will also be in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of Lamborghini’s Sant’Agata Bolognese manufacturing plant. What started off as a small facility, only capable of delivering 67 units, has transformed into one of the world’s most advanced automobile production facilities.

Measuring over 1.7 million sq-ft – more than 13 times the size of the original factory in 1963, the Raging Bull plant is now capable of producing more than 9,000 vehicles annually, with the bulk of it being the marque’s current best-selling model, the Urus SUV.
