Launched: 2023 Maserati Grecale GT – 300 HP MHEV, From RM598K

After introducing the Levante GT Hybrid recently, official Malaysian Maserati importers saw its line up grow once again as it introduced the new Grecale GT model earlier today. The new smaller-sized luxury performance crossover slots below the Levante GT Hybrid model mentioned, standing as a direct rival against the likes of the Porsche Macan and Audi RS Q3.

Initially previewed in Malaysia back in June last year, the Grecale underpins the FCA (Stellantis) Giorgio platform, making it closely related to things like the Alfa Romeo Stelvio. No signs of the more powerful Modena and Trofeo trimlines just yet, though these are expected to arrive at a later date.

Like the Levante GT Hybrid, the Grecale GT packs a unique mild-hybrid (MHEV) powertrain package that consists of a turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cyl petrol mill primed with a 48-volt Belt Starter Generator (BSG).
The BSG serves as an alternator to charge the battery located in the boot, which in turn powers the eBooster electric compressor to fill in the torque gap before the turbo spools up. Altogether, this system delivers combined outputs of 300 HP @ 5,750 RPM and 450 NM @ 2,000 – 4,000 RPM.
Said outputs drive all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive (AWD) driveline, allowing 0-100 KM/H despatched in just 5.6 seconds plus a claimed V-Max of 240 KM/H too. Moreover, the MHEV also sees respectable fuel economy, with Maserati claiming a combined average between 8.7 and 9.2 litres/100 KM.

Enhancing the drive further is the availability of a Vehicle Dynamic Control Module (VDCM) which, according to Maserati, offers 360-degree control over the car’s chassis dynamics. It also grants up to four different drive modes, those being Comfort, GT, Sport, and Off-Road. However, take note that this suite is offered as a cost-option.

Typical of any Maserati, style and luxury are also stand-out fronts in the Grecale, as is its tech package. Key styling traits include the signature Maserati trident emblems present plus the prominent front grille design, boomerang-shaped taillights inspired by the Giugiario 3200 GT, the choice between 19- and 20-inch wheels, as well as brushed chrome and chrome-plated exterior trims.
In terms of exterior paint, the signature Bronzo Opaco global launch colour is available on top of Blu Intenso (metallic blue), Bianco Astro (metallic grey) and Bianco (white solid) choices.

On board, the Grecale boasts “best-in-class” cabin space, and it’s matched with Saffiano leatherwork-inspired leather dash inserts and burnished inserts on the central console and door panel. These are characterised by an unusual laser processing that re-interprets from a Maserati perspective the iconic Maglia Milano, a characteristic of the best jewellery and watchmaking.
Cabin upholstery choices here include premium brown leather, as well as greige or black with contrasting stitching available as an option. The steering wheel is upholstered in leather, whilst the fixed paddle-shifters are made of aluminium.

Moving on to tech, the Grecale’s kit list includes a new digital Maserati clockface seen for the first time, which also doubles up as a voice command-enabled veritable in-car concierge. Next to that comes a massive 12.3inch central infotainment screen, as well as 8.8-inch display for the extra controls plus a third for rear passengers, all of which are tied through the Maserati Intelligent Assistant (MIA) suite.
There’s also an optional heads-up display (HUD), not forgetting a high-end Sonus Faber 3D audio system featuring a 21-speaker setup.
Keen on this Porsche Macan alternative, then? Orders for the new Maserati Grecale GT can now be placed through Naza Italia via its flagship Petaling Jaya showroom where it commands a base starting price of RM598,000 (duties included) sans options and on-road costs.
