LOKE : Public Transport To Have Open Payment Solution Soon - Credit & Debit Card

Minister of Transport, YB Anthony Loke has announced that an open payment system for the public transport services is already in the works. This is especially for services under Prasarana Malaysia Bhd and would be implemented soon.

Further elaborating, Loke informed that with this open system, commuters would eventually be able to use their credit or debit cards on top of the current Touch 'n Go cards when it comes to paying for their public transport service such as Prasarana bus services, Light Rail Transit (LRT), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB).

This is in response Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s statement recently where the premier detailed that the government would review Touch ‘n Go’s current monopoly in the toll and services payment end as there has been a lack of progression and development to improve it further.

However, Loke further added, “We do not intend to end Touch 'n Go’s services, so please don’t say that we are trying to kill off Touch 'n Go. It’s just that Touch 'n Go will be one of several payment options rather than just the only one now.”

YB Loke further added that Prime Minister Anwar sees the urgency in this matter and has  instructed this matter to be put forward in the upcoming cabinet discussion as the current payment solutions has a lot of room for improvement.
