Toshiba Offers ‘’Clock Extension Peripheral Interface Drive’’ Sample Soon

Leading supplier of semiconductor solutions, Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation has announced its plan to provide a sample of an automotive driver/receiver IC defined in the Clock Extension Peripheral (CXPI) under the codenamed ‘’TB9032FNG’’.
In conjunction with the rising EV that happens globally, so does the number of electronic components in in-vehicle systems which has led to improved system complexity plus increased vehicle weight. This is likely because most manufacturers started to incorporate more wiring harnesses into their designs.
Upon that, this statement recently reported by the International Energy Agency (IEA) that highlighted global sales of electric cars increased by apprx. 60% in 2022, surpassing 10 million for the first time, although car sales broadly were soft last year. As a result, one in every seven passenger cars bought globally in 2022 was an EV.

Toshiba further added that in order to combat this matter, it seems necessary to change the connection method of the current system like Human-Machine Interface (HMI) that connects switches and sensors in a one-to-one manner to reduce the amount of wiring harness by multiplexing in-vehicle communication.
Aside from that, the HMI combines CAN (Controller Area Network) and a LIN (Local Interconnect Network - lower-cost, lower-speed on-board subnetworks) which the former is more expensive while the latter less responsive.
Lastly, the Japanese company intended to use the CXPI (Clock Extension Peripheral Interface) or as the notes briefly explained, a comm. standard for in-vehicle sub-networks derived from its LIN then provided by CAN which meant to develop an interface IC that also integrates the CXPI controller as well as the protocol-control hardware.
