The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) expects an increase in traffic volume of up to 2.3 million vehicles daily on the three major expressways - North-South Expressway (PLUS), Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway and East Coast Expressway 1.
LLM further adds the increased traffic on said highways will be starting today (April 19) until May 7 in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration.
Highway maintenance work halted starting April 18 until May 7
Following that, it further instructed highway concessionaires to take steps to minimise the impact of the increased traffic and reduce congestion on the expressways like stopping construction and maintenance work involving the closure of highway lanes starting since yesterday (April 18) also until May 7.
Aside from issuing travel time advisories (TTA) to help road users plan their journey, the other measures include displaying traffic information and reminders on electronic signs for them to top up their Touch n’ Go cards or e-wallets before starting their journey.

From there, highway concessionaires are also requested to station their staff at toll plazas to assist motorists in ensuring smooth traffic flow and to open additional toll lanes in high-traffic areas , especially when the free toll initiative is in effect to ensure the operation at toll plazas run smoothly.
However, although there will be no toll charges from today (April 19) until Friday (April 21), including Sunday (April 24), road users still need to use their Touch n’ Go or SmartTAG cards at toll plazas, while those using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags need to enter and exit highways at the RFID lanes.
Lastly, there will be enough emergency response team (ERT) members to deal with any incidents and additional facilities in parking lots as well as portable toilets in several R&R areas along PLUS including the East Coast Expressway 2.
To conclude, its traffic management centre will operate for 24 hours from April 19 to 26 to provide the latest traffic information to road users.
