After speculations and rumours, Nissan has officially confirmed that a souped-up Nismo version of the RZ34-gen Nissan Z coupe is coming. Ahead of its debut later this year, the Nismo Z is unveiled in a short teaser video, where the car is shown drifting and hooning around the track.
The Nismo Z gets aggressive Nismo bodykit, finished in black and red
But more importantly, said short teaser video gives us a pretty good first-look to this new Nismo model. And just like its GT-R counterpart, the Nismo Z also gets more aggressive styling, as well as a slew of black and red accents in-and-out of the car. This includes the aggressive front lip, side mirror caps, side skirts, and the rear diffuser.
Aside from the new Nismo bodykit, the Nismo Z also rides on stylish Nismo wheels with multi-spoke design and all-black finish.
On board, the Nismo Z comes with Recaro buckets wrapped in black-and-red upholstery, with the Nismo lettering embroidered on the headrests. Apart from the racing seats, the video only showcases the car’s digital instrument cluster that rocks Nismo-specific graphics and dials, with its RPM tachometer redlining at 7,000 RPM – just like the standard model.
The Nissan Nismo Z employs the same twin-turbo V6 engine as the standard model
As for now, all the additional and performance details of the new Nismo Z remains clouded. But at least from the video we know that this souped-up Z model will employ the same 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 VR engine from the standard Nissan Z, though we suspect it might get a higher state-of-tune. For reference, the standard Z’s V6 mill delivers a total system output of 400 HP and 475 NM, with said power delivered to its rear wheel (RWD) via either a nine-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual.
In charge of doing donuts and drifting the Nismo Z in said teaser video was three-time Formula Drift champion Chris Forsberg, who is no stranger to the brand as he’s been using few Nissan models throughout his drifting career.
More details about the new Nismo Z will be revealed later this year...
Aside from the teaser video, much of the details about the new Nissan Nismo Z remain shrouded in the dark, with the automaker vows to reveal more details later in summer this year. The Nissan Nismo Z is slated to make its global debut later this year, with the exact date yet to be determined.
Currently, the range-topping Nissan Z model available for sale is the Nissan Z Proto Spec, with its price starting at $56,380 (RM263,661) in the US. With that in mind, we can expect the Nissan Nismo Z to fetch a much heftier price tag than tag, possibly going north of the $60,000 mark.
