InDrive Receives APAD Approval To Start Ride-Hailing Services In Malaysia
The Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) has granted InDrive, formerly known as InDriver, a business mediation licence (LPP) to run e-hailing services in Malaysia.
It claimed that all issues relating to the LPP, which is necessary to run the service here, have been resolved.
According to InDrive, the licence was granted by the organisation on June 15, 2023, following a review of the app to ensure that it complies with all requirements. InDrive also made a commitment to upholding the law and offering a trustworthy service.

The company also said that after working with APAD, the app's already-existing safety features were improved, though it did not say what changes were made.
For the record, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) conducted a raid on the company's Malaysian office last September after learning that it was allegedly operating there without a valid licence.
At the time, the company was known as InDriver. As InDriver was operating without a valid licence at the time, the Malaysia E-Hailing Drivers Association advised ride-hailing drivers and users not to use it.
Prior to that, the Ministry of Transport (MoT) reported that a ride-hailing operator whose identity was withheld had its licence renewal denied.

This, it seems, was due to the app's inability to show the driver's E-hailing Vehicle Permit (eVP) or let customers know who their drivers were.
The international ride-hailing service provider, made its local debut in October 2021. The company claimed its service was offered in Penang, Alor Setar, Sungai Petani, Ipoh, Taiping, Melaka, Johor Bahru, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Kuantan, Kuala Terengganu, as well as Kuching, Miri, Sibu, Bintulu, and Kota Kinabalu at the time of introduction.
