Report: Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton Will Debut On July 26 in Thailand

Fifth-gen Mitsubishi Triton VGT Athlete
The current-gen Mitsubishi Triton pick-up truck has entered the twilight phase of its life, as its next-gen iteration is reportedly set to make its global debut next month in Thailand.
According to Thai-based automotive site Headlightmag, the next-gen Triton will debut in the double-cab form, which is also known as the Mega Cab body. Meanwhile, the more commercial-bias single cab variant will follow suit later this year. While the next-gen model will carry over the same 2.4-litre DOHC turbodiesel mill from the current-gen model, said report also suggests that the new Triton might be offered with some partial electrification.

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation's "Challenge 2025" roadmap involves an all-electric (BEV) pick-up truck. Could this be the Triton EV?
We’ve previously reported that Mitsubishi is currently working on a full-blown EV pick-up truck as part of its “Challenge 2025” electrification roadmap. And just like many other Japanese marques out there, this EV roadmap will involve Mitsubishi fitting its current crop of ICE models with partial electrification, with the next-gen Triton reportedly being the first of the few to have so.

2023 Mitsubishi XRT Concept
Back to the next-gen Triton, this model will reportedly be based on the Mitsubishi XRT Concept unveiled earlier this year at Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS) 2023. Featuring a very aggressive look with boxy designs and a slew of off-roading equipment, the XRT Concept truly looks miles apart from the current-gen Triton.

The XRT Concept is built on an entirely new platform which is developed in-house by Mitsubishi Motors themselves, where the same underbody will be adopted by the new Triton model. With the concept model boasting very extreme design and off-roading gears like intake snorkel, all-terrain tyres and more, it could be a good indicator of what the range-topping variant of the new Triton might look like, or more precisely, whether MMC is working on a full-blown RalliArt version of the truck.

But then again, these are just mere speculations and rumours, as we have to wait until July 26 to see how the new model will actually look like. The sixth-gen Triton will be the second next-gen midsize pick-up truck to be launched in our region, with the first one being the next-gen Ford Ranger. We can also expect the next-gen Toyota Hilux will be joining the list soon, as its American counterpart – the Toyota Tacoma – recently made its global debut last month.
