Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton Teased Ahead of July 26 Global Debut
It is no secret that Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) is developing a next-gen Mitsubishi Triton pick-up truck for quite some time now. After several rumours and reports about the new truck, the Japanese marque has finally unwrapped the new Triton in a series of teaser images, ahead of its global debut next month in Thailand.
Brightening the teaser images a bit unveils more about the new Triton truck
From the shadow-draped images, we can see that the new Triton follows several design cues seen on the Mitsubishi XRT Concept unveiled earlier this year. After taking the liberty to bump up the exposure of said images, we can see more of the details on this new Triton. Highlights for the exterior include the split LED headlights style with slim DRL on top, sizable front grille with horizontal bars, boxy and chiselled bodywork, and many more.
It seems like the new Triton’s tailgate won’t have a radical update over the previous model, as it sports the standard rectangular LED taillights, with one notable change being the new signature illumination on them. Aside from those, nothing much can be further derived from these series of teaser images.
Fortunately, there’s a short teaser video published by Mitsubishi to supplement the shadow-draped images. Through this video, we can see a few snippets of the new Triton’s cabin design, and more importantly, several rolling shots of the truck wrapped in camouflage decal.
As for the interior, we can clearly see the rotary-style driving mode selector, tablet-style infotainment display, as well as physical controls for the A/C system. The latter indicates that Mitsubishi has yet to take the ‘deviant’ path of integrating all essential controls into the car’s infotainment system, like many other marques do.
Camouflaged-draped Triton previewed in the short video teaser
While the car itself is now partially-draped in shadow, their technical details and powertrain specs however are still being kept under the wraps. Rumour has it that the new Triton will share several mechanical bits with the next-gen Nissan Navara. We previously reported on Mitsubishi’s electrification roadmap, where the marque is reportedly developing a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) pick-up truck some time in the near future, before going full-blown all-electric by the end of this decade.
The sixth-gen Mitsubishi Triton pick-up truck is slated to make its global debut later in July 26 this year, taking place in the neighbouring northern Kingdom of Thailand. With Mitsubishi now reviving its RalliArt performance arm, it is plausible that we’ll also get a souped-up performance variant of the new Triton, possibly being the new Ford Ranger Raptor rival.
