Audi Q6 E-tron Prototype Previews New EV SUV with 100-kWh Battery

Audi Q6 E-tron EV SUV prototype
It is no secret that Audi is building an all-electric version of the Q6 SUV, which is slated to make its debut some time in 2024 or 2025. In an attempt to scratch our itch pertaining to this new EV model, Audi has decided to unveil the prototype version of the Q6 e-tron, featuring less camouflage than we’ve seen before.

From a visual standpoint, the new Q6 e-tron looks somewhat similar to its ICE counterpart, albeit with some milder treatment. Up front lies a prominent front bumper design, featuring a large faux grille that is flanked by slim LED headlights. Mind you, this is no ordinary light, as it features digital DRLs with 61 individual segments – allowing them to be fitted with all sorts of adaptive functions.

The Q6 e-tron's taillights come with up to eight different lighting signatures
While there’s nothing much to report on the side except for the striking wheels it rides on, the same can’t be said for the Q6 e-tron’s derriere, as it comes with OLED taillights with full-width light bar. With over 360 individual elements in six main OLED tiles, said taillights feature Audi’s new Dynamic Light function – providing the Q6 e-tron with up to eight different lighting signatures. Elsewhere, the SUV comes with a colour-matching rear ‘diffuser’ that adds more style over substance.

Similar to the new Macan EV, the Audi Q6 e-tron also underpins the new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) EV architecture, which is co-developed by Audi and Porsche. Featuring a 100-kWh battery pack with a 800-volt architecture, the Q6 e-tron can be charged via DC fast charging at a maximum rate of 270 kW, enabling the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in less than 30 minutes.

As for the powertrain specs, the standard Q6 e-tron boasts a dual electric motor setup that delivers 375 HP to boot. This motor setup, plus the 100-kWh battery pack, grants this EV SUV a maximum range of up to 600 KM, according to the WLTP cycle.

The camo-wrapped Audi SQ6 e-tron
Should you need more power, Audi is also developing a souped-up SQ6 e-tron variant, which employs the same dual-motor setup that’s now been tuned to deliver up to 510 HP with the boost mode. Audi claims the SQ6 can go from nought to 100 KM/H in about 4.5 seconds – a respectable figure for a full-size SUV.

As we mentioned earlier, the Audi Q6 e-tron will come in several guises, notably the peppier SQ6 e-tron, as well as a Sportback variant which features sporty coupe roofline. Ahead of its 2024 (or 2025) market entry, Audi will unveil a final production version of the Q6 e-tron by the end of this year, as the marque is still fine-tuning the prototype model, particularly on its chassis and electronics.
