Hyundai Mobis Real-Time Road Signs LED Lighting System - Minimise Road Accident
-full_normal.jpg)
Hyundai Mobis is working on creating improved headlamp technology that can display real-time road signs on the road ahead. This ground-breaking HD Lighting System is predicted to drastically minimise nighttime car accidents for both drivers and pedestrians.
The HD Lighting System makes use of HD micro LEDs as light sources, as well as a digital micro-mirror device (DMD), which is made up of microscopic mirrors that operate as a reflector. The device can see and display road signs in text or forms onto the road surface. It can, for example, display signals of upcoming road work to alert cars or project crosswalk signs on the road surface to assist people in crossing safely.
This technology is distinguished by its attention for both drivers and pedestrians. While there are currently safety technologies that alert drivers, such as GPS navigation and head-up displays (HUD), the HD Lighting System goes a step further by including communication functions for pedestrians as well.

The extraordinary precision of the HD Lighting System is due to the employment of almost 25,000 micro LEDs, each barely 0.04 mm wide, allowing for sensitive light control. The DMD, which has minuscule mirrors of about 0.01 mm in size, can reflect light from densely packed LEDs to project crisp and exact information on the road while responding to changing road conditions.
The technology employs real-time data from the front camera sensor and GPS navigation. When approaching a construction zone, for example, it can display a 1.5-meter-wide "Under Construction" emblem 15 metres ahead of the driver, coupled with speed limit information. This function improves vision and assists drivers in identifying impending hazards such as speed bumps or highway entrances and exits.

Furthermore, the HD Lighting System reduces pedestrian accidents by recognising people via the video sensor and showing virtual crosswalks when the automobile comes to a stop. This feature, termed as "communication lighting," ensures effective communication with pedestrians through the use of headlamp projections rather than standard emergency lights or horns.
Hyundai Mobis recognises the significance of software technology in the age of autonomous driving, since it allows for the integration of multiple vehicle components into a single device. The company intends to remain at the forefront of automotive innovation by spearheading the development of cutting-edge lighting and advanced control technology.
