Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional Sdn Bhd (Proton) has achieved a positive sales figure for the first half of 2023, recording its best cumulative sales numbers since 2012. As of June 2023, the national automaker recorded over 28.6% increase in sales over the previous year, with over 77,321 vehicles delivered so far this year.
In June 2023 alone, Proton managed to deliver 14,351 units for both domestic and international markets, marking an estimated 23.2% of market share from an estimated total industry volume (TIV) of 61,900 units. Aside from that, the year-to-date market share figure has also increased by 21.3% – an improvement of 3.2% over the corresponding period from 2022.
All in all, the first half of 2023 saw Proton achieving the highest growth figure compared to other top five car brands in Malaysia, which also grew by 9.4% in the first half of the year.

Roslan Abdullah, CEO of Proton Edar & Deputy CEO of Proton Holdings Bhd
“Proton’s performance in the first half of 2023 is noteworthy as we achieved our best start to a year since 2012 and are also on track for fifth consecutive year of sales growth. The numbers show demand for our products remains strong despite projections of a reduction in liquidity for consumers, and this is proven by our growth rate outpacing the overall market by over three times,” said Roslan Abdullah, CEO of Proton Edar.
