Dashcam Catches Road-Raging KL Driver Brake-Checking Motorcyclist Into A Crash

A road rage incident involving a car driver and a motorcyclist has gone viral this week. The timestamp on the video indicates that the incident occurred on Monday (Aug 20) in what appears to be a rather busy stretch of Jalan Syed Putra, Kuala Lumpur.
The 24-second clip posted on social media by a road user doesn’t clearly show what prompted a visibly heated verbal exchange between the motorcyclist and the driver in the silver Lexus. However, it does clearly capture the ensuing actions of said Lexus driver, which has drawn the irk of many netizens.
The clip then shows the silver Lexus veering into the motorcyclist path and brake-checked TWICE.

We’ll also point out that, during their exchange, the silver Lexus also risked colliding with a brown Proton Persona that was initially tailing it from behind and later appear to catch up and attempt to merge from the left. It is unclear what the intentions of the driver in the Persona were.
Following said verbal exchange, the driver in the Lexus veers ahead into the motorcyclist’s path and perform what many motorist know as a ‘brake-check’ – twice. This then led to the motorcyclist to crash into the rear of the silver Lexus and run aground.
Following said crash, said driver in the silver Lexus nonchalantly sped off from the scene. According to NST’s report of the incident, the motorcyclist suffered a broken leg as a result of this altercation. No police reports were filed as yet, meaning it remains unclear if said driver will face any punishments just yet.
Regardless of what led to this altercation, the actions of said driver in the silver Lexus should serve as a prime example of how NOT to react or respond to any sort of threats on the road. Perhaps this is also yet another prime example of the dangers present on our roads today that warrant the need for a dashcam.
Aftermarket dashcams are now fast becoming a must-have accessory for daily commuters. Aiding this further is the recently introduced CamScore scheme by MIROS.
Besides aftermarket options, some car brands now have DVRs or Dashcams built-in to select models. Pictured here is the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro we recently test-drove.
Dashcams – or Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) as how some car brands have termed it – have become a new must-have for daily motorists today. This is evident through the introduction of the CamScore rating system by the Malaysia Road Safety Research Institute (MIROS) late last year.
Should the authorities act upon the driver of the silver Lexus in this incident? What would be a justifiable form of punishment? As always, hit the comments below – and our social pages – with your thoughts on the matter…
