EVM Asia 2023: Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV On Display At ABB Stand

Still not launched Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV marks its second public appearance during EVM Asia 2023 at the ABB display stand.
The still not launched Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV is now on display with industrial tech giant ABB Malaysia Sdn Bhd (ABB) over at their display stand at EVM Asia 2023. Said expo runs this week at MITEC, Kuala Lumpur from 19 Sept to 21 Sept.
Initially teased ahead of its first official public debut during the recent Merdeka Day parade in Putrajaya, this marks the model’s second official public appearance in Malaysia. The unit we spotted was also still dressed in its commemorative Merdeka-themed ‘livery’ instead of the usual camouflage.
CariCarz.com was informed that the still not launched model was loaned by Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) to ABB Malaysia Sdn Bhd for this week’s expo specifically. Also, said festive livery worked just as well as a camouflage would in hiding key things like model variant script badges on the tailgate.

Note the covered tailgate badges (left) hiding this EQS SUV's variant, but the 22-inch wheels it rolls on (right) is perhaps a tell-tale sign of being a higher-end guise.
Apart from the covered variant badges, we can confirm that this EQS SUV rolls on 22-inch wheels. With that, we are left uncertain if this the single- or dual-motored ‘4Matic’ flavour of this lifted, crossover twin to the EQS luxury EV saloon. Our best guess is that this may be the single-motored EQS 450+ SUV guise.
Mirroring its similarly-named saloon twin offered by MBM prior in fully imported (CBU) form, this suspected base variant packs a rear-mounted motor that drives the rear wheels with 355 HP and 568 NM. Said outputs sees 0-100 KM/H despatched in 6.7 seconds whilst enroute towards a capped 210 KM/H V-Max.
The dual-motored 450 4Matic guise slotted above, on the other hand, has similar power but higher 800 NM torque instead, whilst the 580 4Matic flavour raises both to 536 HP and 858 NM. The range is capped off by the ultra-luxurious EQS 680 Maybach 4Matic guise that boasts 658 HP and 950 NM.

The EQS SUV was loaned to ABB Malaysia Sdn Bhd specifically for this week's expo where the firm is showcasing its DC charging station unit.
All variants of the EQS SUV adopts a 120 kWh (107.8 kWh) battery to juice its motor (or motors). For the single-motored 450+, the setup grants a claimed max WLTP range of 660 KM, whilst dual-motored variants boasts slightly lower 613 KM and 600 KM figures instead, depending on variant.
As for charging, the EQS SUV again mirrors its saloon twin on the charging front, whereby it accepts both AC and DC inputs, the former up to 11 kW and the latter up to 200 kW. We can also expect similar re-charge times, with the latter rapid charging method promising 10-80% in just 31 minutes.

Our best effort at taking a sneak peak of the interior. Note the front dash's adoption of the MBUX Hyperscreen a la the EQS 500 4Matic saloon.
Unfortunately, the display unit we sized up at EVM Asia 2023 was kept locked at all times, leaving our exploration of its interior unfulfilled. However, we did take a sneak peak of the cabin's front, and we can confirm it appears as what’s seen in the now locally assembled (CKD) EQS 500 4Matic saloon variant.
Key features present include the triple-screen MBUX Hyperscreen infotainment display setup dominating the dash, matched with rear seat entertainment suite featuring dual headrest displays. Crucially, the unit displayed appears to have a three-row seating layout for seven.

There wasn't much else to deduce from the unit displayed at EVM Asia 2023. MBM is expected to launch the model sometime in Q4 this year.
Apart from which, there wasn’t much else to deduce from our brief inspection of the unit displayed. Whilst MBM remains tight-lipped about the model’s launch timeline, we are led to believe that it will happen soon enough within the final quarter (Q4) of this year.
Until then, folks wanting to get an early and close up look of the EQS SUV can do so during EVM Asia 2023 that runs this week until 21 Sept (Thursday) at MITEC, Kuala Lumpur.
