Great Wall Motor First Chinese EV Maker To Respond To EU’s Anti Subsidy Probe

Great Wall Motor of China announced that it had formally submitted responses to the European Commission's anti-subsidy investigation into Chinese-made electric vehicles (EVs), while also calling for a fair and open trade environment, CNC reported.
According to Bloomberg, tensions between China and the EU are rising, owing in part to Beijing's closer ties with Moscow following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, while the EU seeks to reduce its reliance on the world's second-largest economy in its push for a green transition.
Great Wall Motor is moving forward with the site selection for its European factory and will not slow down its overseas expansion despite the European Union's countervailing investigation into pure electric vehicles imported from China, according to the Chinese carmaker's president.
The automaker will launch more electric vehicles in Europe, accelerate the formation of European research and development teams, and introduce more new energy and intelligent technologies and resources to Europe.

“We need a fair and open trade environment,” the automaker’s president, Mu Feng, said on his Weibo social media account on Monday. “We have the confidence to win the competition globally.”
Great Wall was the first automaker to provide answers to the European Commission on October 11, he added.
“Europe is one of the key strategic markets for Great Wall Motor,” Mu said, adding that the company had big plans for the region, having begun site selection efforts for a plant there, envisaging full capabilities from production to sales.

Great Wall Motor is inviting 300 dealers from 32 countries in Latin America, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the EU, Australia and New Zealand to its headquarters in Baoding, northern Hebei province from Oct. 24 to Oct. 26 to introduce its latest products and services, the automaker said in a press release.
For the record, Great Wall Motor has been expanding its international presence over the last year. Foreign sales increased by 90% year on year in the first nine months to 210,000 units. It has sold over 1.3 million vehicles abroad to date. The company's vehicles are sold in over 170 countries and regions, with over 700 overseas sales channels.
