New Honda N-Box Slope Debuts As Wheelchair-Accessible Kei Car
The next-gen Honda N-Box is officially on sale in Japan this week, following its unveiling a couple moons ago. Offered in a slew of variants, the new N-Box features one special and peculiar variant catered for the needies, known as the Honda N-Box Slope.
As its name suggests, the N-Box Slope features a built-in slope at its tailgate that transforms it into a wheelchair-accessible kei car. Designed to transport wheel-chaired passengers with ease, the N-Box Slope is offered in either the regular N-Box or the sportier N-Box Custom trims – both powered by the same 660 CC 3-cyl nat-asp mill that delivers 58 PS and 65 NM.
Aside from the built-in slope, the N-Box Slope also comes with an electric winch that can be operated in two stages to pull the passenger on the wheelchair into the car with ease. As demonstrated in this short video posted via Honda Japan's YouTube channel, said device also automatically corrects the wheelchair’s path when it enters the car, allowing for a seamless loading process.
Aside from wheelchairs, the N-Box Slope's ramp can be also used to load heavy and bulky cargo
While the car itself is designed for the mobility-impaired, the N-Box Slope can also be used as an ideal cargo mover. Thanks to said ramp, loading and unloading heavy cargos are made easier. Moreover, the stored ramp also allows for an extra storage compartment below it – an ideal spot to store some small, loose items instead of letting it fly around your cargo space.
Practicality has always been the key selling point for kei cars, and this is no exception for the new N-Box Slope. Its boxy and tall cabin space, coupled with the foldable seats, garner users with more seating and cabin layout options – all in a much smaller footprint and package compared to conventional cars.
For those who are not familiar, wheelchair-accessible cars are not new here in Japan, as we’ve seen several models including the new Alphard and Vellfire, with both models coming in special, disabled-friendly variants.
The Honda N-Box Slope is available in both Standard and Custom trim levels
The all-new Honda N-Box Slope is now on sale in Japan, with prices starting from JPY 1.884 million (RM59,889) for the standard, front-wheel drive (FWD) variant, which can go up to JPY 2.188 million (RM69,553) for the range-topping N-Box Custom Slope with an all-wheel drive (AWD) configuration. For comparison, the standard, non-Slope N-Box FWD model only starts at JPY 1.648 million (RM52,380).
A total of 129 units of the used and recon Honda N-Boxes are now on sale here at Caricarz.com!
While kei cars have always been a JDM special, several recon and used models have actually made their way into our market, including the previous-gen Honda N-Box.
