Proton has released an official statement following a recent viral incident showing a brand new Proton X70 which still has its seat wrapping intact catching fire at what seems to be a PUSPAKOM vehicle inspection centre in Alor Gajah.

According to Proton, they are aware of the “thermal” incident video that has been widely circulating and thank all concerned parties for sharing the information. According to Proton further the X70 that was on fire is already in their possession and was not registered at the time of the incident as the incident happened before the mandatory inspection process prior to registration.

Proton engineers have initiated an investigation process in close collaboration with the relevant authorities and promises to provide an update once all the necessary information has been gathered.

The folks at Proton also mentioned that they would like to assure all customers that Proton vehicles are meticulously designed to meet the highest standards. Each unit undergoes rigorous quality and safety inspections before delivery. Notably, the Proton X70 earned a 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating during testing in October 2018. With nearly 100,000 units produced over the past five years, it has been the most popular model in its class during that period.
