Are More GWM Sub-Brands Set To Enter Malaysia Soon?

Unbeknownst to most, Chinese automaking giant GWM possesses a vast port-folio of five sub-brands - ORA, HAVAL, GWM CANNON, TANK, and WEY.
For those unfamiliar with the Great Wall Motor (GWM) marque, China’s largest SUV and pick-up truck manufacturer possesses quite a vast portfolio of sub-brands. In fact, the firm has five of which under its umbrella, and it seems the automaker’s Malaysian arm (GWM Malaysia) is set to introduce more of them soon.
We’re certain you may be familiar with its all-electric ORA sub-brand that’s already marketed in Malaysia through the stylish and tech-laden ORA GOOD CAT EV. At the same time, we’re also certain many are also familiar with the HAVAL banner that is renowned for its range of reliable, upmarket, and tech-rich SUV models.

Perhaps most Malaysians are already acquainted with the ORA and HAVAL sub-brands, the former led by EVs and the latter by its range of reliable, upmarket and tech-rich SUVs.
Besides them, GWM has three other sub-brands called GWM CANNON, TANK, and WEY, each possessing a distinct product concept and DNA.
Starting with GWM CANNON, this brand is positioned as the firm’s leading pick-up truck line, and it currently stands as the best-selling pick-up truck line in its home market of China for 25 consecutive years. It also indicates that with every two pick-up trucks sold in China, one of it is a GWM.

Previewed at the Malaysia Auto Show 2023 in May, bookings for the GWM CANNON has opened in Malaysia since Aug this year.

The GWM CANNON ULTRA pick-up truck specifically looks promising thanks to its rich list of features and amenities that include a foldable step in its flatbed tailgate.
Seasoned readers and loyal CariCarz.com followers will know by now that the GWM CANNON pick-up truck range is already open for bookings since Aug this year. An official launch is imminent and, having sized up two variants of the CANNON at the Malaysia Autoshow 2023 prior, things look very promising indeed.

Another notable sub-brand under GWM is TANK, and it packages distinct style, luxurious amenities, high comforts, and all-terrain capabilities.
Next comes TANK, and this GWM sub-brand is presently amongst the top-selling ¬luxury SUV brands in China. As we’ve seen in things like the TANK 700 that recently debuted at the Guangzhou Auto Show 2023, this sub-brand packages distinct style, luxurious amenities, high comforts, as well as all-terrain capability.
Notably, GWM’s TANK range of SUVs has already debuted in Thailand earlier this year, garnering favourable fanfare in said Kingdom just north of our Peninsular’s border. With that, it seems certain that this sub-brand will debut in Malaysia, perhaps as early as next year (2024).
Lastly – but definitely not the least – comes WEY, which GWM has positioned as its large-sized flagship luxury SUVs and MPVs line. At the core of each model are unrivalled premium amenities that are presented with a touch of sophistication and matched with high levels of tech.
Amongst the five, WEY seems like a longshot for entry into Malaysia in the near term, but we won’t dismiss the possibility for which at a much later stage, especially given the next set of facts…

In Malaysia, GWM's network of 15 outlets nationwide is set to double to 30 outlets within the first half (1H) of 2024.
Aptly, the entry of these exciting sub-brands and their enticing new offerings wouldn’t be possible without a dedicated sales and after-sales support network. Fortunately, GWM Malaysia has that in place already through its existing nationwide network of 15 dealerships as of this year.
In preparation to introduce these sub-brands, GWM Malaysia is poised to ramp things up by doubling its dealer network to a total of 30 outlets within the first half (1H) of 2024. Said expansion will also see GWM Malaysia focus heavily on establishing and developing more full-fledged 4S centres.

GWM Malaysia's 2024 network expansion will focus on establishing more 4S centres in particular.
Boosting the latter is the fact that GWM Malaysia have established dedicated spare parts centres to support this network and speedily serve its customers. Altogether, GWM Malaysia is poised to enhance ownership experiences for all its customers by simply delivering peace-of-mind through it all.
Adding to which, GWM Malaysia is also set to ramp up its localisation (CKD) efforts. The firm’s recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing with partners EP Manufacturing Berhad is an indication, as said in the agreement’s stipulation that it anticipates a variety of product types including EVs.

The GWM HAVAL H6 is tipped to be the first GWM model to be locally assembled (CKD). It's also expected to go on sale in 2024 for around RM150,000.
However, reliable industry sources indicate the GWM HAVAL H6 HEV is the first to get the CKD treatment before going on sale sometime in 2024. Already ranked as one of China’s best-selling crossover SUVs, the HAVAL H6 by GWM also boasts with a proven track record for both durability and reliability.
With localisation, there’s also the possibility of the Haval H6 commanding a tempting price tag of RM150,000. Needless to say, should things pan out accordingly with its CKD efforts, such an SUV at such a price ought to see GWM Malaysia easily woo more new customers into its fold.
