Ferrari Incorporates Electronic Device Testing Technique To Speed EV Development
According to Reuters, Ferrari's chief executive Benedetto Vigna revealed on Thursday that the company is speeding up the development of its first fully electric vehicle, which is anticipated to be released in late 2025, by utilising a method typically used for testing electronic devices, known as "Hardware in the Loop" (HIP) testing technique.
A former executive at chipmaker STMicroelectronics said that HIP testing simulates the behaviours of products under development under various conditions and is typically used for computers or smartphones.
“Some have started to use it for cars, and we have too,” he said. “This allows you to accelerate the debugging phase of the electronic system,” Vigna added in a post-earnings roundtable.
At its annual investor conference, Ferrari recently disclosed that it plans to build its first electric (EV) sportscar by 2025. It also acknowledged that by 2030, 40% of all production will be electric vehicles (EVs) and 80% will be electrified, replacing the brand's iconic screaming thunder of supercars. The Ferrari EV is still in the prototype stage right now.
According to Vigna, Ferrari is on track with its plans for fully electric cars, both in terms of vehicle development and infrastructure. The company's new assembly facility, known as the "e-building," in its hometown of Maranello is scheduled to be completed in June of next year.
