GWM Tank 700 Revealed As China’s Answer to The Land Cruiser

New GWM Tank 700 Hi4-T flagship SUV breaks cover at the Auto Guangzhou 2023 motor show
Great Wall Motor (GWM) is welcoming the latest flagship SUV for its Tank sub-brand at the Auto Guangzhou motor this year. Cordially known as the GWM Tank 700 Hi4-T, this body-on-frame SUV is powered by GWM’s proprietary Hi4 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, while the ‘-T’ in its name indicates the forced induction nature of the mill it carries.
Dimension-wise, the Tank 700 is a pretty big car, even for a flagship SUV standard. Measuring 5,113 MM long, 2,061 MM wide, 1,952 MM, and a wheelbase of 3,000 MM, this plug-in SUV is slightly bulkier than the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 series, with said model measuring only 5,015 MM long with a wheelbase of 2,850 MM.

Visually, the Tank 700 is a very rugged-looking SUV, featuring the traditional boxy SUV silhouette like we saw on other Tank models. This is especially true for this exclusive Limited Launch Edition variant displayed at the Auto Guangzhou, with only 70 examples will be made. This special edition adds a full carbon fibre kit, roof-mounted light bars, while riding on stylish 22-inch alloy wheels shod in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV tyres.
Though no official photos of the Tank 700’s innards were published by the automaker, CarExpert said that the Limited Launch Edition model will come equipped with Rolls-Royce-inspired starry headliner, plus a special two-tone black and white upholstery. Aside from that, standard modern equipment and amenities are all expected to be available in this SUV, though no details were shared about them, for now.

Unlike other GWM Tank models, the Tank 700’s PHEV setup comprises a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 petrol mill rated at 359 HP and 500 NM, which is mated to an electric motor to deliver a total system output of 518 HP and 750 NM. Drive is then sent through a nine-speed automatic gearbox to a dedicated all-wheel drive (AWD) system. Aside from that, this SUV rides on a bespoke damper setup consisting of air suspensions and electromagnetic shock absorbers, plus a disconnecting stabiliser bar that helps to improve its off-road capabilities.

Following its inaugural public debut at the Auto Guangzhou 2023 this week, the all-new GWM Tank 700 Hi4-T PHEV SUV is now available for booking in the Chinese market, where it will be handsomely tagged at CNY 700,000 (RM458,933). As we mentioned earlier, only 70 units of this Limited Launch Edition are up for grabs, with its deliveries slated to commence later in Feb next year.
