WCE Assam Jawa Interchange Opens To Public - TOLL FREE Till 2 Jan 2024!
Works Minister, Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, was present for the opening of the Assam Jawa Interchange on West Coast Expressway (WCE) Section 6. This section spans 21.8 km and connects the Assam Jawa Interchange with the Bandar Bukit Raja Utara Interchange. For drivers coming from Kapar in Selangor, this route provides direct access to Assam Jawa.
With a scheduled public opening on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 12:01 am, WCE Section 6 has the potential to completely transform travel dynamics by reducing the travel time between Kapar and Assam Jawa (Ijok) by a staggering 30 minutes. This improvement results in a significantly shorter travel time of 15 minutes compared to the 45 minutes required previously, hence improving traveller comfort and convenience.
Furthermore this interchange is expected to have a significant impact on the region's tourism scene. Well-known tourist destinations, such as Sky Mirror, Bandar Warisan Batu Arang, Bukit Malawati, and Taman Kelip-Kelip Kampung Kuantan, are now easier to get to and require less time to visit.
Small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) would also stand to benefit from the launch of WCE Section 6, which would impact the local community's overall socio-economic growth. Interestingly, the interchange creates a direct connection to the LATAR Highway, strengthening the connection between various highway network components and making travel easier and more convenient.
Dato Sri Alexander besides expressing his gratitude, mentioned that it is important to note that the WCE Highway has been designed with modern highway standards for sustainable environmental practices. This is reflected in all parties' commitment in environmental conservation. He also went on to announce a toll free period till 2nd January 2024 for traffic at Assam Jawa Toll Booth both ways.
He further added that besides promoting the use of green technology in highway construction, improved traffic flow and shorter travel times can contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions and improvement in air quality.
The four sections of the West Coast Expressway that were first unveiled in 2019 are complemented by this most recent addition. These includes Section 5 (Bandar Bukit Raja Selatan - Bandar Bukit Raja Utara) in Selangor, and three sections in Perak, Section 8 (Hutan Melintang - Teluk Intan), Section 9 (Lekir - Changkat Chermin), and Section 10 (Changkat Chermin - Beruas).
Meanwhile, Datuk Ir. Hamzah Hasan, Chairman Of The West Coast Expressway added that the current traffic on WCE daily stands at about 60,000 vehicles and WCE Highway features a electronic toll payment collection (ETC) for cashless transactions at all toll plazas, meeting the "Multi Lane Fast Flow" (MLFF) standards.
