West Coast Expressway On Track For 2027 Completion
The long-awaited West Coast Expressway (WCE) is edging closer to completion, with WCE Holdings Bhd (WHB) targeting 2027 to wrap up the 233km highway linking Banting in Selangor to Taiping in Perak.
Eight of its 11 sections are already open to traffic, and momentum is picking up on the remaining three.
“Section 7 should be done by late 2026, and Section 3 by the first quarter of 2027,” said chief executive officer Lyndon Alfred Felix in a BH report. The expressway is seen as a game changer, easing journeys between Klang, Kuala Selangor, Teluk Intan, Sitiawan and Manjung, while connecting smoothly to other major highways.

Built on flatter ground than traditional routes, it is designed to cut fuel use and make travel safer, especially for heavy vehicles.
Traffic on the open stretches has been promising, boosted by the opening of the Banting–SKVE link last August and the SKVE–Kesas link this January.
“We’re tracking well with our projections. Once the final sections open, traffic should grow even further,” Lyndon stated.
One key hurdle is Section 3, where a land acquisition has yet to be settled. Although compensation was already paid, a single parcel remains occupied.

"Discussions with both state and federal authorities are ongoing," he said, hoping that the matter can be resolved within the next two months.
The company’s numbers are also improving. Toll revenue more than doubled last year to RM125.2 million, helping group revenue climb to RM629.1 million.
In the first quarter of FY26 alone, traffic rose 36% while toll collections surged 61% quarter-on-quarter.

Beyond tolls, WHB is investing in new rest and service areas equipped with EV chargers, renewable energy and greener facilities.
“Our priority now is to complete Sections 3, 4 and 7 that will unlock the full potential of the WCE,” Lyndon concluded.
