Apple has previewed its new bespoke CarPlay service on Porsche and Aston Martin models

Following its announcement back in 2022, renowned tech giant Apple has finally previewed the next-gen version of its CarPlay mobile connectivity service, featuring a more bespoke layout and design. Set to be rolled out later in 2024, the firm has previewed this new system on Porsche and Aston Martin models just to give a glimpse of what customers can expect.

Next-gen Apple CarPlay bespoke previewed on an Aston Martin

Starting off with the British automaker, it appears that the new bespoke CarPlay now covers both the AM’s central infotainment display and the digital instrument cluster, with the latter showcasing the current song being played by the system. As for the central display, you can see that some essential controls have been integrated into the CarPlay menu, including the climate adjustment seen in this rendered image.

While there’s nothing much left to be derived from this first image, at least it gives us an idea of the bespoke nature this next-gen CarPlay offers. More importantly, CarPlay’s integration into the car’s digital instrument cluster also promises some level of customisation for drivers, which may or may not include integrations from other apps like navigation (Apple Map, Waze, Google Maps, etc.), and many more.

Moving on to the Porsche, it appears that the new CarPlay covers all three main displays of the German model’s cockpit, including the dedicated front passenger display. Similar to Aston Martin’s, the next-gen CarPlay also offers some level of customisation to the car’s digital instrument cluster layout, with the Porsche one featuring a dedicated lap time recorder alongside the main central dial and speedometer.

As for the main and third displays, the former features the typical Apple CarPlay main menu layout, which also integrates the cabin’s climate control, just like what we saw in AM’s cabin. Moreover, the third, dedicated front passenger display showcases essential information like event reminders and weather, though we believe this layout can be customised further according to your own preference.

Back during its Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple did promise that the next-gen CarPlay would boast some form of integration with the car’s main telematics system. This means that the new CarPlay will be able to take driving data such as the speedometer, battery, fuel gauge, and many more straight from the vehicle and display them directly on the CarPlay menu.

While it may sound like Apple is trying to breach your vehicle’s driving data, the firm insists that this move is in-line with its aim to provide a more seamless integration of the iPhone into the vehicle, which allows users to access all their mobile apps via the car’s infotainment system. Apple further guarantees that all driving data collected from the car will not be stored on the users’ iPhones in a bid to ensure the car’s data privacy remains intact.

As of now, Apple is poised to roll-out its next-gen bespoke CarPlay system as early as 2024. While Apple has already previewed this new system on both AM and Porsche’s cars, it remains unclear whether this new, fully-integrated CarPlay would feature in Porsche models, although Aston Martin has reportedly confirmed that its vehicles will be made ready for this new system next year.
