KPJ Healthcare Berhad (KPJ), Malaysia's largest private healthcare provider, officially launched Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations in collaboration with Gentari Sdn. Bhd. (Gentari). This move spawned from a memorandum of understanding (MOU) penned between both parties back in July 2023.

The very first EV charging station under KPJ’s wings was launched by Dr. Nik Fawaz Nik Abdul Aziz, Chief Operating Officer of KPJ Healthcare, and Shah Yang Razalli, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Green Mobility Officer of Gentari, at Menara KPJ along Jalan Tun Razak.

This move towards embracing electrification showcases KPJ Healthcare's commitment to adopt environmentally-friendly practices aligning with Malaysia's vision for a sustainable future.

According to our source at Gentari, the facility at Menara KPJ would house four (4) EVCB equipped with one (1) 60 kW DCFC primed with two charging nozzles along with a pair of 22 kW AC charger. The charging rate at this facility, is expected to be RM1.20/kWh (DC) and  RM0.90/kWh (AC) when it goes online.

Moving forward, KPJ also revealed plans to expand this at nine other specialist hospitals across Malaysia under it. Amongst them are KPJ Penang, KPJ Tawakkal, KPJ Ampang Puteri, KPJ Selangor, KPJ Kajang, KPJ Klang, KPJ Seremban, KPJ Johor, and KPJ Bandar Dato' Onn Specialist Hospitals.

KPJ Group also expressed its ambitious goal to establish a total of 32 charging points nationwide, accessible through the Setel, JomCharge and ChargEV App once necessary licencing matters are obtained from the Energy Commission (ST).

Dr. Nik Fawaz, also emphasised that this strategic move towards a sustainable healthcare ecosystem would set new industry standards in the field, actively reducing carbon footprint, and enhancing patient experience.

He too mentioned that by doing so, KPJ would also collectively play an active role in helping the government realise its 10,000 EV charger target by 2025. This also sees the firm directly contributing to Malaysia's target of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Upon completing Phase 1, Gentari will explore the potential expansion of EV charging installations to other KPJ hospitals and explore potential opportunities for EV fleet leasing exercises with KPJ.
