The updated Porsche Taycan has aced its final testing, clocking over 3.6 million KM in total

Ahead of its global debut, Porsche has put the facelifted Taycan through strenuous and rigorous testing with the aim of providing significant improvements over the current model.

Throughout its globe-trotting tests, the new Taycan has clocked in over 3.6 million KM around some of the world’s most extreme weather conditions, from the scorching heat of Death Valley in California to the bone-chilling Finnish Arctic.

The new Taycan broke its predecessor's Nurburgring lap time record by a whopping 26 seconds

All this hard work and strenuous testing have already borne fruit, with the new Taycan recently setting a new record around the notorious Nurburgring track. Clocking at 7:07.55 around the ‘Green Hell’, the new Taycan obliterated its previous model’s lap time record by a whopping 26 seconds, while being faster than its Sino-American rival, the Tesla Model S Plaid, by a healthy 18 seconds.

Part and parcel of the new Taycan’s sheer lap time record is due to its tweaked chassis setup and the improvements bestowed on its triple-motor powertrain setup. Though not confirmed by Porsche, reports suggested that the new Taycan is now capable of outputting over 1,000 HP, which is a significant improvement over the current Taycan Turbo S’ total system output of 751 HP.

Beyond faster lap times, Porsche engineers have also managed to improve the new Taycan’s battery system, with the updated saloon now boasting faster charging times. Thanks to its intensive winter testing, the facelifted Taycan can now be charged twice as fast as its predecessor during extreme cold weather.

Commenting on the commencement of its testing period, Taycan’s head of product line Kevin Giek said, “Faster, higher, further – we have improved the new Taycan in practically every discipline compared to its predecessor. And because the changes are so extensive, the gruelling testing program is almost comparable to that for a new model.”

Meanwhile, the head of Taycan testing Florian Stahl said, “Alongside exceptional performance, a key requirement is uncompromising day-to-day usability under all climatic conditions.”

“At its market launch in a few months, the substantially upgraded Taycan will have completed extensive worldwide tests in a total of 17 countries in temperatures ranging from -41 to +53 degrees Celsius,” Stahl added.

The new Porsche Taycan is set to make its debut later this year, with several indications suggesting that its inaugural global unveiling will take place later in mid-March, making way for the new Porsche Macan Electric to be launched first.
