Thaipusam 2024: Seven Road Closure Around Batu Caves Till 28 January
In preparation for the Thaipusam celebration, seven (7) roads in the Batu Caves area of Selangor will be closed from 10 PM, 22 January until Sunday, 28 January. This measure is implemented to alleviate traffic congestion as an estimated two million visitors are expected to gather at the Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple in Batu Caves for the festival.
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan announced the road closures to include:
- Routes from the intersection of Jalan Bunga Raya leading to Jalan Batu Caves
- Traffic light at Jalan Stesen (Batu Caves bypass)
- Slip road from Batu Caves roundabout (MRR2) heading to Batu Caves Temple
- Exit from Gombak (MRR2) heading to Batu Caves Temple
- Intersection at Jalan SBC8 / Jalan Lama Batu Caves
- Jalan Perusahaan heading to Batu Caves Temple
- Traffic light intersection at Sri Batu Caves heading to MRR2.
To manage the situation, motorists are advised to plan alternative routes and utilise designated parking areas. The public is encouraged to take advantage of free fares provided by Rapid KL and commuter trains on January 24 to 25, as announced by the government.
For security and coordination, a total of 1,600 policemen have been assigned to oversee the Thaipusam celebration. Static control centres have been established to provide services and facilitate police reports for visitors.
However, the use of drones in the Sri Subramaniar Swamy temple area at Batu Caves during the Thaipusam celebration is strictly prohibited. Police personnel will be stationed in the area to monitor and ensure compliance with this restriction.
