Tesla Motors Malaysia’s exhibition at the IOI City Mall features a body-in-white structure of the Model 3.
Ever wonder what lies beneath an EV’s body panel? If yes, then this is a good chance for you to find out, as Tesla Motors Malaysia is displaying the body-in-white structure of the Model 3 EV in an exclusive exhibition show at the IOI City Mall.
Unlike both the Model X and Model S, the facelifted Model 3 ‘Highland’ boasts a unique blend of stamped steels with various strengths for its body structure instead of aluminium castings. Besides providing more strength than aluminium, the steel structure is also more commonly used for high-volume, low-priced cars, as it requires less time and cost to produce.
Thanks to its all-steel body construction, the new Model 3 managed to score decent ratings on various globally-renowned crash tests, including the Euro NCAP, the Australian NCAP, and many more. Also helping the Model 3 achieve these stellar scores are its extensive active safety features, which are now being tested in several new crash test protocols.
Besides the Model 3’s BIW structure, the exhibition also showcases the full range of the Model 3 ‘Highland’, as well as the upcoming Model Y SUV.
The facelifted Tesla Model 3 'Highland' arrives in two guises for our Malaysian market
Offered in two guises for the Malaysian market, the baseline Standard Range RWD is tagged at RM189,000, while the top-specced Long Range AWD variant currently retails at RM218,000. As its name suggests, the Standard Range model boasts a single, rear-mounted electric motor setup that is good for a 0-100 KM/H finish of 6.1 seconds, while its WLTP range is capped at 513 KM.
Meanwhile, the Long Range AWD model gets a peppier dual-motor AWD setup that allows a century sprint finish in only 4.4 seconds. Equipped with a bigger battery setup, the LR variant boasts a higher WLTP range of 629 KM.
Those who are keen to check out the BIW structure or the Model 3 can visit Tesla Motors Malaysia’s exhibition located at the LG West Court of the IOI City Mall, Putrajaya. The exhibition runs from now until Feb 26, 2024, and entries are free for all.
