An extensive set of guidelines for the installation of electric vehicle (EV) chargers at the local authority (PBT) level in Selangor is presently being developed by the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) through a pilot project.
Jamaliah Jamaluddin, chairman of the Selangor Public Health and Environment Committee, stated that the pilot project was carried out in accordance with the federal government's guidelines for installing EV chargers issued in September 2023.

"This pilot project carried out by MBSA will be more focused on the state of PBTs and areas under the Selangor government to get feedback before implementing the incentives," she said.
Jamaliah was responding to a supplementary question from Dr Afif Bahardin (Perikatan Nasional-Taman Medan) about whether the Selangor government intends to make EV charging points mandatory in new housing development projects.
Jamaliah stated that, in the interim, records from the state government show that, thanks to the combined efforts of the public and private sectors, 681 EV charging stations have been constructed in Selangor. The state is promoting the use of EVs, and by 2025, it hopes to have 1,000 EV charging spots available.

"At the same time, the state government through PBTs, such as the Petaling Jaya City Council, has provided a free parking scheme for hybrid and EV users since 2011.
"Apart from that, the Selangor government is in the final stage of discussions regarding the proposal to give incentives as an effort to increase the use of EVs by extending the free parking scheme to EV users throughout the state — to be implemented by PBTs this year," she added.
