Report: BMW 4 Series/M4 Set to Be Axed After This Generation

Rumours have surfaced online that the BMW 4 Series/M4 reportedly won’t survive for a next-gen redux.
The current G22-gen BMW 4 Series has just received its first facelift treatment, four years after its initial global introduction back in 2020. However, rumours have suggested that the two-door compact coupe might not be getting a next-gen redux, as BMW is reportedly ready to pull the plug for the whole model range.
According to BMW Blog, the current-gen BMW 4 Series and both the 8 Series Coupe and Convertible are heading to the chopping block. Although BMW has yet to confirm nor deny these speculations, we’d reckon it’s a rather logical one from a business standpoint, considering the poor sales performance for all three models mentioned above.
Naturally, this axing would involve all the models under the 4 Series roof, and this includes the souped-up M4, as well as their soft-top convertible counterparts.
However, said publication did not clarify whether this axing would also involve the all-electric BMW i4, with said model reportedly getting a new successor, possibly based on BMW’s latest Neue Klasse EV architecture. This new EV coupe is rumoured to commence production as early as July this year, technically making the 4 Series live on for another generation, albeit available solely in fully electric form.
With both the 4 Series and M4 recently getting their long-awaited facelift treatment, it is safe to say that the two models aren’t going away anytime soon.

For the facelifted version, both the 4 Series and M4 gained some minor design tweaks and equipment upgrades on top of their improved powertrain setups. For the standard 4 Series, the facelifted M440i now comes standard with a mild-hybrid (MHEV) powertrain setup, featuring a 3.0-litre straight-six mill as its core, delivering up to 386 HP and 539 NM. Meanwhile, the facelifted M4 Competition benefits from a 20 HP power boost, which resulted in an improved total system output of 523 HP.
