Brembo And Michelin Set To Collaborate, Promises To Enhance Vehicle Comforts & Safety

Brembo and Michelin, arguably two of the automotive world's biggest OEMs, have agreed to collaborate and develop tech to make vehicles both safer and more comfortable.
Brembo and Michelin, arguably two of the automotive world’s leading OEMs, recently came together to announce a collaboration agreement.
Together, both firms promise to develop new tech that could help make vehicles both safer and more comfortable. In joint statements issued by the renowned Italian braking experts and French tyre manufacturer, both firms emphasised the collaboration’s focus on sharing real-time data.
Firstly, the partnership will combine Brembo’s expertise in braking systems, vehicle modelling and artificial intelligence with Michelin’s tyre modelling and algorithm development. Secondly, Michelin’s connected solutions software will provide real-time tire grip data to Brembo’s SENSIFY braking system as well.
As a refresher, the latter tech was developed by the Italian firm to enable engineers to fine-tune brake systems with exceptional precision. In the same statement, Michelin also adds that track tests at its research centre showed braking distances can be reduced by up to four metres in situations where anti-lock brakes (ABS) intervenes.

At the heart of this collaboration is real-time data-sharing to merge Brembo’s expertise in braking systems, vehicle modelling and artificial intelligence with Michelin’s tire modelling and algorithm development.
This partnership with Michelin illustrates the power of collaboration and innovation in the automotive industry,” said Brembo CEO Daniele Schillaci.
“We are thrilled to join forces with a brand like Brembo, a leader in its field. Our shared passion for innovation and excellence allows us to take a new step forward in enhancing user safety,” said Serge Lafon, Michelin’s head of automotive original equipment.
This collaboration agreement comes shortly after Brembo, which is majority-owned by Italy’s Bombassei family, sold off its 5.6% stake in Michelin’s rival Pirelli back in Oct this year. The move effectively ends Brembo’s link with said rivalling tyre brand, which is also Italian.
That aside, Brembo’s other major 2024 efforts also saw it perform its largest ever acquisition when it took over world-famous Swedish suspension makers Öhlins (Öhlins Racing AB) from its previous owners Tenneco for a reported cash sum of US$405 million (approx. RM1.8 billion).
