See The Proton S70 R3 S1K Racecar At The Malaysia Autoshow 2024!
Say hello to the all-new Proton S70 R3 S1K racecar!
Proton has a brand-new racecar, and it wants you, the public, to see it first, before it starts racing. Making its public debut at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024 (MAS 2024) this week is the all-new Proton S70 R3 S1K racecar, and it’s one of several headlines at Proton’s booth this year.
Announced late last night, the new race machine from Proton’s Race Rally Research (R3) motorsports arm is also the first all-new metal from said division since the Proton Saga R3 that debuted in 2019. This new S70-based successor certainly has big shoes to fill.
That’s because the Proton Saga R3 had charted three overall victories at the gruelling annual Sepang 1,000 KM (S1K) national-level endurance race event, bringing Proton’s win tally up to five in total for said event too – more than any other manufacturer in its history.
The new Proton S70 R3 S1K racecar succeeds the Proton Saga R3 S1K racer, and it's poised to continue Proton's winning ways in the national-level annual endurance race event.
According to Proton, the S70 R3 S1K racer stands as an extension of Proton's enduring racing legacy that stretches well before the formation of R3 to an era when the marque competed in rallies and circuit competitions with the original Proton Saga.
Proton adds that the car shown at MAS 2024 is still under development by R3, but it already boasts the latest evolution of the aerodynamic package tailored for the racer. Two units will be campaigned by the national carmaker at this year’s running of the annual S1K enduro.
Proton were coy about specifications. Given S1K’s technical regulations for machines entering it to remain close to stock, we reckon this racecar still harnesses the regular road car’s 1.5-litre 3-cyl turbocharged petrol mill, which is good for 147 HP (150 PS) and 226 NM.
The new Proton S70 R3 S1K racecar will be showcased at Proton's booth this week during the Malaysia Autoshow 2024 (MAS 2024). See details below.
We’ll know more once we take a close gander at it during MAS 2024 that’s happening this week. You can do so yourselves too by heading to the show this week at MAEPS, Serdang from May 22 to May 27 from 10AM to 10PM.
Besides the new S70 R3 S1K racecar display, Proton’s booth at MAS 2024 will feature said racecar’s road-going twin on display alongside other contemporary offerings like the X50, X70 and X90 crossovers, as well as the Saga, Iriz, and Persona models, with test-drives available too.
Visitors who place bookings on the X50, X70 and X90 at MAS 2024 will receive two years of free service maintenance. Bookings of the Saga, Iriz, Persona and S70 placed at the show, on the other hand, will earn a RM500 cash voucher.
Both offers are valid for bookings of said models mentioned placed at the show and registered before June 30, 2024. Additionally, visitors participating in test-drives at the show can enter a special lucky draw to win exclusive Proton merchandise.
