Report: Perodua Bezza And Proton Saga Ranks Amongst Top 5 Best-Selling Sedans In The World
Malaysian-made world-beating sedans? Well, one independent analysts seems to think so...
Yes, you read that right, it seems both the Perodua Bezza and Proton Saga are somewhat world-beaters, at least according to the findings published by independent automotive analyst Felipe Munoz via his @carindustryanalysis Instagram page.
Before we continue, here’s a DISCLAIMER: the figures quoted by Munoz are not verified for their accuracy, so we'll take them with a pinch of salt at least. We’ll also let slide Munoz’s move in segmenting both the Saga and Bezza as ‘Entry-Level B-Segment Sedan’ instead of ‘A-Segment Sedan’ as how both cars are classified locally.

Back to our subject and, to be more specific, it seems both the Bezza and Saga rank amongst the world’s top five best-selling ‘Entry-Level B-Segment Sedans’ in 2022 based on total sales figures. In fact, Munoz’s stats places the Bezza at number one in this space with 66,600 units shifted in 2022.
While we aren’t able to cross-check this figure with Perodua at this time, we’ll note that the Bezza’s feat in this analysis is mighty impressive considering the fact that it is marketed solely in Malaysia.
UPDATE:
Upon further checking, figures from the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) indicates that Perodua shifted 69,438 units of the Bezza throughout 2022.
With just under 70,000 units sold in 2022, the Bezza stands as the world's best-selling 'Entry-Level B-Segment Sedan' in 2022 according to independent analyst Munoz.
Based on Munoz’s stats, the Bezza outsold the Lada Granta, sold primarily in Russia and a handful of export markets, that placed second with 64,100 units sold in 2022. The Bezza also beat the third-gen Chevrolet Aveo/Sail that ranked third. Primarily sold in China as well as Central and Latin America, it saw 55,200 units shifted in 2022 based on Munoz’s findings.
The Saga ranks as the world's fifth best-selling 'Entry Level B-Segment Sedan' according to Munoz, with Proton claiming 55,878 units shifted in 2022 both in Malaysia and abroad.
In the same stat, the evergreen Proton Saga still ranks respectably in fifth with 51,600 units shifted in 2022. However, we’ll note a discrepancy in Munoz’s figure here. Based on Proton’s press release issued earlier this year, the national carmaker indicated it sold 55,878 units of the Saga throughout 2022, said figure covering both local sales and ovearseas in no less than 11 export markets.
Besides the Saga, Munoz’s statistics also revealed that the Proton Persona stood as the 14th best-selling ‘B-Segment Sedan Plus’ car in the world for 2022 with 20,100 units sold. Again, we’ll note yet another discrepancy here as Proton did state that it shifted a total of 16,357 units of the Persona in 2022.
Based on Munoz's findings, the Toyota Yaris/Ativ Vios stands as the world's best-selling 'B-Segment Plus Sedan' in 2022 with 278,600 units shifted worldwide.
In this category, both Toyota and Honda predictably hold top honours with their respective Yaris Ativ/Vios and City offerings. However, the Toyota that reigns supreme with 278,600 units sold in 2022 and marking a 7% rise over 2021 sales according to Munoz. The rivalling Honda instead placed second with 167,500 units sold worldwide, and marking a 38% increase over its 2021 sales figure.
