Could This Camouflaged Model Be Ferrari’s First EV?

A mysterious, camo-wrapped car was spotted in Maranello recently. Could this be Ferrari’s first EV model?
It is no secret that Ferrari is delving into the electric car market, with the Italian automaker poised to launch its first fully electric model as early as next year. While the company remains tight-lipped about its first EV model, it appears that a mysterious model draped in camouflage wrap was spotted at Ferrari’s Maranello HQ recently, which raises many suspicions that this could be the marque’s long-awaited EV model.

Captured by Dutch photographer Derek Cornelissen (also known as @derek.photograpy on Instagram), it appears that this mysterious model is indeed Ferrari’s first EV model, albeit dressed in a mule bodywork consisting of parts from both Ferrari and Maserati models. Sporting a crossover hatch body style, this mule EV model borrows its body from the Maserati Levante SUV, while its headlights are sourced from the Ferrari Roma.

Upon further inspection, you’ll also notice that the test mule carries faux quad tailpipes at the rear, which hints at its all-electric nature. Further fuelling the mysterious model’s electrified nature are the thunderbolt decals hued in bright yellow colours present on its camouflage wrap.
Unlike its body donor, this EV test mule sports a much lower stance thanks to its lowered suspension setup, while rolling on a wider set of wheels shod in Pirelli tyres.

Lamborghini Lanzador EV Concept
With this mysterious model being a mere test mule, we can’t be 100% sure whether Ferrari’s first EV model will sport this lifted hatchback crossover body style, meaning that it could potentially be something more ‘Ferrari-like’ such as a grand tourer, a roadster, or even a supercar. But given that its eternal rival just revealed their first EV prototype in the form of the Lamborghini Lanzador EV crossover, there might be a chance that Ferrari strays away from its sporty roots once again and succumbs to the current SUV/crossover trend for its first EV model.

To make matters worse, Ferrari also didn’t provide any details regarding the powertrain specs of its first EV model, except promising that it’ll deliver the same driving sensation other Ferrari models are known for. Given that the Maranello-based marque is actually testing out its EV model with a test mule, we can be sure that it won’t be derived from the current EV power plants used on Maserati EV models.

Set to debut later in 2025, Ferrari’s first EV model will be produced at the marque’s newly-opened E-Building, with the site also in charge of producing key components for all the marquee’s electrified products. More importantly, the electric supercar is expected to cost more than €500,000 (approximately RM2,519,539), which effectively makes it one of the priciest EV models on the market.
